Painting the Masters

So I was painting these today and I thought "Hey! Here's something I can put up on my blog!" In my attempt to learn how to paint (which is taking much blood, sweat and tears) I decided to copy some of the masters. These two paintings are copies of two Russian impressionists, who the great Sam Michlap turned me on to. Painting from their paintings helps me see how these incredible painters approached color and how far I have to go. So enjoy!

(oh and the names of the painters are: Alexander Gulyayev and Zoya Samoilenko, I'm not sure which order blogger is going to post these paintings, so I'll just give you the names of the painters and let you sort out which one is attributed to which.)

Look-ie who's gone and got herself a blog...

How are they treating you down there Kristen? Have you seen "Everyone's Hero" yet?

Aside from the new building, not much new up north. Business as usual.

Nice work on the blog.
Always enjoy your artwork.
You young whipper-snappers put us rusty old CG animators to shame.

Great work Kristen!

Man, I wish I could paint. When I colour stuff it's a permanent battle! I should do some of those "good night and good luck storyboard" type things too, facinating to see the simple shapes they compose with!

Hey Kristen! Nice painting. I envy you for learning how to paint. It's one of the thousands of things on my list of things to do.
I didn't know you were down in California. How is it? I bet you will miss the winter..... oh that sweet Toronto slush!

Take care.
